June 2017: Band:
4th June Paddy Maguire£4 on the door
Whilst still a teenager, Paddy Maguire was held in such high regard that, after jamming on stage with one of his heroes, guitar player Rory Gallagher, he was invited to join his first band. He & his band perform with a potent mixture of power & finesse, the guitarist regularly pulling the trigger & unleashing visceral, mesmerising solos. Paddy is influenced by greats such as Clapton, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix, Rory Gallagher, & in particular Stevie Ray Vaughan, to whom he is, understandably, probably most often compared.
11th June Gav Coulson Group£4 on the door
The Gav Coulson Group was formed in 2010 with the aim of bringing a new class of contemporary blues-rock material to audiences throughout the country. The Gav Coulson Group draws a lot of its influences from modern day bluesmen such as Joe Bonamassa, Gary Moore & Walter Trout but still holds true to some of the earlier contemporary blues heroes such as Hendrix & the Allman Brothers. You might also get an original version of a blues-rock classic included in a live set!
18th June John Verity Band£5 on the door
John Verity began his music career in the early 1960's playing in various UK bands. By 1970 he was living & touring in the USA supporting artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Mountain, Canned Heat, Savoy Brown, & Janis Joplin. Shortly after his return to England in '71 he was spotted by Rod Argent who was looking for a new lead vocalist for his band following the departure of Russ Ballard. John eventually joined Argent late in 1973 until they disbanded in late '76. The next few years were spent in recording studios throughout the world, producing, playing guitar or doing backup vocals with various acts including Motorhead, Tank, Ringo Starr, Russ Ballard, Colin Blunstone, Brian Connolly, John Parr, BowWowWow & The Searchers amongst many others. Since then JV has collaborated with numerous artists including Mike Rutherford, Keith Emerson, Greg Lake & The Zombies.
25th June The Nicol Band£4 on the door
Les Nicol on guitar has spent many years playing guitar with bands such as Methusela, Coast Road Drive, Distant Jim, ABC & many, many more. He has played with some great names such as Mick Ronson & Tim Renwick as well as touring the world for five years with Leo Sayer. His fluid & astounding guitar playing is supported by the sublime fretwork of Ade Carter on bass guitar & the awseome Mike Wright on drums. Together they are The Nicol Blues Band!
